About Sara Goes Fishing
A few years ago, Carin and her husband were searching for books for their young nieces. They prefer to give gifts of books and money towards “future” funds for holidays and birthdays. They were looking forward to getting their nieces excited about fishing and thought books with girls as the main character would be a good fit. After failing to find what she had in mind, she sat down and wrote her own.
Sara Goes Fishing is a sweet story about two young girls going fishing with their grandpa. Sara doesn’t like slimy, wiggly worms. She doesn’t like long drives to the lake or sitting still and waiting for her bobber to go down. But with some help from Grandpa and her big sister Molly, and with some bravery and patience, Sara might just learn how fun fishing really is.
Carin hopes to not only normalize the image of girls fishing as well as inspire children of all ages to fish and have fun outdoors, but to also encourage intergenerational relationships.
Meet Sara
Sara’s character is based on Carin’s sister, Sara. Every time they go fishing, there are tangled lines, wiggly worms, and lots of laughs. (Molly’s character shares a combination of traits from both her sisters and cousins).
Sara enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and daughter who also loves reading and playing outside.
Sara is also a combat veteran and currently serves in the WI National Guard.
